Skills Interview

Technical Support Engineer

How To Prepare

On this page you'll find everything that will be covered on your skills test interview. Please read it carefully so that you can come prepared for the call.

What we'll cover

  • Your support experience.
  • Your experience with ticketing systems.
  • Your experience with automation builders.
  • How our support process works, and where you'd fit into it.
  • The live support call below.
  • Any questions that you have for us about the role.

The Live Support Call

In this interview call, the first thing that we're going to do is a live support call. You are going to pretend that you are a Technical Support Engineer at StudioHub. You are going to run the call using the steps below. We are going to pretend that we are a client who needs your help.

Here's the scenario

  • You're helping Hervin, a StudioHub client.
  • He wants a quality check built into ClickUp. Every time he finishes a task, another team member needs to look at it and confirm it was done properly, so nothing goes out with mistakes in it.
  • He doesn't know how to do that.
  • You're going to work it out with him, then walk him through building it with a ClickUp automation.

How to run the call

  1. Introduce yourself.
  2. Ask Hervin about the problem. Pretend you know nothing about it.
  3. Ask him to share his screen so you can see what he's working with.
  4. Once you understand the problem, teach him how to build the automation that solves it.

🖥️ This is hands-on

You'll ask Hervin to share his screen, and you'll use the Zoom pointer to guide him through it, exactly as you would on a real support call. If you haven't used the Zoom pointer before, find it before the interview.

🎯 What we're looking for

  • How friendly you are on the call.
  • Whether you ask questions and work out what's actually wrong, rather than guessing.
  • Whether you come up with a solution that works.
  • Whether your directions are clear enough to follow.
  • Whether the problem gets solved.

What we're not looking for

As people go through this exercise, the number one way they get it wrong is that they start solving before they understand the problem.

Diagnosing it properly is half the exercise. So ask your questions first.

Before the call

Have a ClickUp account open so you can follow along. Find the Zoom pointer. Have your questions ready. Join five minutes early with your camera on.
